eNPS Score

Learn how you can use eNPS to measure your employees loyalty and how the score is calculated and what constitutes good eNPS score.

What is eNPS?

eNPS is short for "Employee Net Promoter Score" - it's a method used to measure how loyal your employees are. This is done by asking them - on a scale from 1 to 10 - if they would want to recommend their workplace to friends and acquaintances . The eNPS-survey is of cource 100% anonymous.

eNPS is the closest one can get to an unofficial standard across various systems, which means that one can also compare their eNPS score across different company sizes and industries.

Employee responses from 1 - 10 are divided into the following categories:

  • 0-6 = Detractor
  • 7-8 = Passive
  • 9-10 = Ambassadors, also called “Promoters”

Below you can see the meaning of the different categories:

Detractors will actively discourage others from working for you.

Passives will look for a new job within a couple of years.

Ambassadors love working for you and recommend everyone to work for you.

How is the score calculated?

The Employee Net Promoter Score is calculated by taking the percentage of promoters and subtracting the percentage of detractors. The score can range from -100 to +100.

An example of calculation:

A company with 70% promoters, 10% passives, and 20% detractors has an eNPS score of 50 (70-20 = 50 eNPS score).

What is a good eNPS?

A good eNPS ranges from 10 - 30, and if you have 50 or above, it is extremely good. But be aware that it varies greatly from industry to industry what is considered a good score. It is important to focus on the development of your score and work with the feedback you receive from your employees.
